Tanbo Art

For the Japanese, rice fields are the symbol of the land. There are so many things in their land. The soil of their ancestors. The water that binds. The changing color of seasons. Life in harmony with nature. The nostalgia of the homeland.

Although Japan is now a highly urban and industrialized nation, it has never lost its agrarian identity. Rice and rituals are blended together. Legends tell us that rice arrived with the gods who created the imperial lineage and the Japanese people themselves. And in the generosity and constancy of intense collective work, landscapes of great beauty have arisen for centuries.

What could be more natural than to give this heritage an art form? Japanese farmers have planted ancient varieties of multicolored rice to create frescoes that can be admired from above.
